This week was pretty much the same as it is at home: Hell Week. Midterms, a favorite time of year for any college student, filled with tears, stress and junk food. Fortunately, this time around, midterms were a piece of cake. I ended up not studying for many of my exams; classes here seem easier than the ones I usually take in the states. I’m not sure if that’s because the Italian professors practice the Italian way of life in the classroom, but everything has been generally easier than I’m used to. What I’m finding most satisfying (and sometimes challenging) is work. I love the gallery and I’m learning a lot. This week was also my birthday and the beginning of spring break. After all the finals were over, I waited for Kristen and Brandon to come on Thursday (my birthday). After not seeing them for almost two months (keep in mind I live with them) I was really missing them. They got here on Thursday at around 4pm. We all met up around 7 to go to dinner, which was delicious. Then we went to a bar afterwards, which to no surprise wasn’t that enjoyable (I’m not a huge drinker), but the atmosphere was adorable.
Earlier today, Kristen, Brandon and I decided to be tourists. We walked down Via del Corso, through a political protest in Piazza del Popolo to get down towards Capitoline Hill. Around Capitoline Hill there is Trajan’s Forum as well as the Roman Forum and the Colosseum. The historic district is one of the nicest places in the city, even though it’s usually packed with tourists. Today was so beautiful, 65 degrees, warm and not a cloud in the sky: perfect for sightseeing. The only disappointing part of our tour was the Trevi Fountain, which has been under construction for about two years. Otherwise, the rest of our journey was great. Kristen and Brandon really enjoyed their panini’s, cannoli and aracinas. Definitely one of the best days I’ve had in Rome yet. Stay tuned, Ryan gets in tomorrow and we’ll be traveling to Venice and Florence for my spring break!
